Continuous Gas Analyzers

Continuous Gas Analyzers

Siemens Process Analytics Instruments are often used to determine if there is pollution coming from stacks and going into the air. These instruments are used as part of systems called "Continuous Emission Monitoring" systems. Gas separation plants use our gas analyzers to determine gas purity and help these plants prevent contamination by unwanted gas components.

Our gas analyzers measure multiple or single components and use techniques called Non-dispersive infrared (NDIR), Paramagnetic Oxygen analysis, Flame Ionization Detection (FID) and electrochemical Oxygen in some of our multi-component NDIR analyzers.

The most popular gases to be measured by our ULTRAMAT 6 and the ULTRAMAT 23 analyzers using the NDIR techniques are Carbon Dioxide, Carbon Monoxide, NOx, SO2 and Methane. This isn't our complete list, but these represent about 90% of the applications we see for NDIR analysis.

Our OXYMAT 6 uses the paramagnetic effect of Oxygen (Quinke effect) to make small pressure pulses with an electromagnet which are measured to determine the amount of Oxygen in a process stream. Measurement can be from 0-100% Oxygen, out of the box. The gas stream never sees the sensor, so corrosive gases are not a problem.

Our FIDAMAT is a flame ionization detector for measuring the total hydrocarbons in a gas stream. After ionizing the hydrocarbons in a burning Hydrogen flame, the carbon ions are attracted to a charged grid and the resulting pulses are counted. This technique can measure down to half a part-per-million (ppm) and up to nearly 100,000 ppm in the same instrument.

Several configurations are available for different applications including HRVOC. Multi-component analyzers are also available. The ULTRAMAT/OXYMAT 6 offers paramagnetic Oxygen and NDIR in one 19" rack. The ULTRAMAT 23 gives the user up to three NDIR channels with one electrochemical Oxygen channel (0-25% O2). Barometric pressure, RS485 and LC Displays are standard on most of these analyzers.

Siemens has developed two new gas analyzers: the CALOMAT 6 for measuring hydrogen concentrations and the OXYMAT 61 for analyzing oxygen content. Also available is the NOXMAT, a CLD NOX Analyzer for CEMS and other NOx measurements.
