The S7-I/O is an input/output device for monitoring and controlling power devices that are not designed for digital communication. The standard S7-I/O comes equipped with up to 14 digital inputs and 10 outputs in a small, easy-to-connect package. You can increase the capacity of the device in blocks of 8, up to a total of 64 I/O points.
You can apply the S7-I/O as follows:
As an economical system for remote monitoring and control of a unit substation or similar piece of electrical distribution equipment (in combination with a 4700 Power Meter
Monitor the protective and control relay operations could via the discrete inputs available through the S7-I/O.
Monitor any device equipped with an auxiliary contact (e.g., a molded case circuit breaker).
Track breaker or starter operations or count the pulsed output from a kWhr meter using the discrete inputs of the S7-I/O
Monitor transformer temperature relays and circuit breaker status (open or closed).
Use the outputs to close contactors, trip circuit breakers, provide indication of an event, or to communicate alarms to plant personnel
S7-I/O Relay Features:
14 digital inputs and 10 digital outputs (standard unit)
Expansion I/O modules: You can add up to five expansion modules to the standard unit. Each expansion module has either eight inputs or eight outputs
Analog input capability: Each block contains three inputs. You can add up to four blocks for a total of 12 inputs
On-board control power for expansion modules
Counters on the first eight inputs of the base unit
Pulsed or latched digital states on outputs. You can use pulsed outputs for breaker operation control. Pulsed outputs are typically accomplished through an interposing relay
Relay contact outputs that you can manually control
Two control power options: 120/240 VAC or 24 VDC
PStandard DB9 connection port for connection to an RS-485 network
