SIMOTION Runtime Software
With SIMOTION , we have created a scalable and universal system platform for industry-specific automation solutions focused on Motion Control applications.
The scalable system features enable you to economically customize and implement your applications.
The modular SIMOTION runtime software is comprised of three key components. First is the SIMOTION kernel. This is the core of SIMOTION, which contains the basic functionality and is included in all of the SIMOTION devices. Second, are the Technology Packages. These are individually loaded software modules that allow the functionality of SIMOTION to be scaled to meet the needs of your application. Third, is the SIMOTION Function Library. This library contains standard software modules for integrating/interfacing SIMOTION with different devices. Together with the user program these software components provide an optimum solution, which is tailored exactly to the requirements of the application.
SIMOTION Kernel
The operating system of the SIMOTION device is called the SIMOTION kernel. It contains the basic functionality of the SIMOTION devices. This basic functionality includes I/O handling, communications functions, and a high performance speed regulator. In addition to these core functions the SIMOTION kernel has a powerful execution system that is capable of managing cyclic, sequential and event-driven tasks.
The task structure of the execution system supports both Motion Control and PLC/sequential tasks that can be programmed using editors compliant with today's industry standards for logic and motion programming (e.g., IEC61131-6, PLC Open, etc.).
Technology packaging
Technology packages are software modules that contain core functions utilized in SIMOTION. For example, the basic SIMOTION functionality logic control and speed regulation is contained in the
"Motion Control Basic" Technology Package. Additional Technology Packages, like Position, Gear, Cam or TControl can be downloaded into the SIMOTION device allowing the user to design the most cost effective application solution. Selection and programming of the appropriate technology packages is all transparent to the user. The SIMOTION engineering system SCOUT handles these functions. The user simply writes the program using the industry compliant editors then SCOUT will program and generate a bill of material for the required technology packages . What could be simpler?
SIMOTION Function Library
The SIMOTION Function library is a compilation of documentation and prewritten modules to aid the user with SIMOTION programming. The standard functions contained in the SIMOTION Function Library enable easy integration of the modules, PLCopen and control functions into the SIMOTION system. Program integration is clearly described through programming examples, enabling quick and easy commissioning. Additional components such as:
Controller modules (PID controller, PI step controller, pulse width modulation)
Components for the integration of HMI systems
Components for the integration of SIMODRIVE POSMO A positioning motors are available in the library.
