Engineered drives complement Siemens’ extensive range of standard enclosed drives. Drives or drive line-ups that require a customized configuration or have very high HP ratings (typically from approximately 1,000 to around 5,000 HP) are classified as engineered drives.

The term “engineered drives” does not imply that these are new, untested designs. Instead, all designs are based on combining type-tested enclosure modules and components, which guarantees that performance specifications regarding ratings, enclosure type, mechanical strength, ability to withstand vibrations, short circuits and more are ahered to.

General Engineered Drives configurations that fall outside our current range of standard enclosed drives include:
• Very high HP (>800 HP) non-regenerative AC/AC drives with 6- or higher pulse line side rectifiers
• Drives with 12- or 18- pulse line side rectifiers
• Fully regenerative drives with Smart Infeed
A Smart Infeed is a very price competitive basic IGBT based regenerative front end, with line feedback equivalent to a 6-pulse diode rectifier.
In contrast, Active Infeed technology (SINAMICS S150) also is fully regenerative, but provides clean power and a variable line side power factor
