SITOP power supplies from Siemens provide a broad selection of industrial switched mode power supplies, suitable for worldwide applications due to their input voltage characteristics and agency approvals. Power security components can be easily added when the application can’t afford downtimes or when highest product efficiency is the customer’s major concern.
Three different power supply lines nearly cover all industrial power supply needs:
The SITOP Compact Line features power supplies for the most common DC voltages including 5 VDC, 12 VDC, 15 VDC and 24 VDC up to 100 watts. Although inexpensive, all power supplies come with a wide input voltage range from 85 up to 264 VAC and worldwide agency approvals, which allow the use of the Compact Line in practically every single phase network worldwide. In addition, industry specific agency approvals such as FM class 1, div. 2, UL class 2, ABS and German Lloyd have widened the application possibilities even further into new industries. An extra wide operating temperature range from -20oC up to 55oC is another outstanding feature of the Compact Line and qualifies these power supplies for equipment in remote locations, dispersed over large geographic areas with extreme temperature changes.
The SITOP Smart Line focuses on 24 VDC, which has become the worldwide preferred control voltage of choice. The key feature of the single phase power supplies, available in 2.5, 5 and 10 A, is the narrow width. This makes the Smart Line one of the smallest power supplies available in the U.S. market. Despite its small dimensions, there is a lot of functionality integrated in each unit:
The power boost function eliminates the need to specify a power supply for the highest inrush current. The capability to overload the power supply for up to 5 seconds with 150% of the rated output current provides enough power to safely start high inrush DC loads such as motor starters and solenoids.
Under regular operating conditions all Smart Line power supplies provide 100% of the rated output current up to 60oC and even sustain 120% of the rated output current if the ambient temperature does not exceed 45oC. Many competitors already require substantial de-rating with ambient temperatures higher than 40oC.
The SITOP Smart Line single phase power supplies are the right solution for applications in hazardous environments with FM Class 1 Div2 approval and also the equivalent European ATEX approval.
For high shock and vibration environments, a modified SITOP Smart 24 VDC/ 10A power supply is available that meets relevant shock and vibration standards including:
- IEC 68-2-27 Basic Environmental Testing Procedures, Part 2
- IEC 60529 Ingress Protection Rating
- MIL-STD-810F, Method 514.5, Vibration
The SITOP Modular Line is the Siemens high end line of 24 VDC power supplies which provide solutions for single phase and 3-phase networks in 5A, 10A, 20A and 40A. The 5 and 10 A units are single phase power supplies, but offer an ultra wide input voltage range from 85 – 264 VAC in the 120 VAC circuit and 176 – 550 VAC in the 230VAC circuit. This outstanding feature allows the user to specify one power supply for single phase and three phase applications. As usual, single phase applications require hot wire and ground. In order to use the single phase SITOP Modular 5 and 10 A units for three phase applications, you connect 2 of the 3 hot wires to the power supply.
Completeness is a differentiating factor of our high end line, compared to other power supply vendors. Many customers have already experienced how difficult it is to find a 3-phase 24 VDC power supply below 20 A, or even a single phase 24 VDC power supply higher than 20 A.
Further product features:
A metal housing and a metal DIN rail clip make the Modular Line the perfect solution for the roughest environments due to their robustness.
SITOP Modular helps to save costs in applications with high inrush loads due to the integrated power boost function. There is no longer a need to specify the power supply for the highest inrush current because each SITOP Modular power supply is able to provide up to 300 % of the rated output current for up to 25 ms.
The Modular Line provides load sharing. In case parallel operation is required for doubling the output current or for creating a redundant power supply system (by adding a SITOP Redundancy Module), it is crucial that the two power supplies hooked up in parallel operation share the load equally. Although many power supply vendors allow parallel operation, load sharing very seldom comes with it. Parallel operation without load sharing is not considered a professional solution due to many restrictions, which apply in order to avoid unbalanced demand on the power supplies.
All SITOP Modular power supplies can be combined with the optional power security components.
The SITOP Power Security Components provide reliable solutions for the most common 24 VDC power interruptions and help to minimize downtimes and increase the efficiency of production. The two main tasks for the SITOP power security components are monitoring and protection. Monitoring of the operating status from an upper level control system becomes increasingly important since the majority of control components operate on 24 VDC. The customer therefore can immediately take action in case of problem situations. Monitoring and protection can be provided in many ways depending on what the specific application may require:
Basic protection can be established by monitoring the status of the 24 VDC power system in order to respond quickly when a failure occurs. By adding a Signaling Module to the SITOP Modular power supply, status signals for the input and output voltage can be communicated to higher level control systems.
For brownouts and short voltage fluctuations, which often cause costly losses in production, Siemens offers an additional Buffer Module, which provides ride thru times of up to 800 ms, depending on the output current of the selected SITOP Modular power supply.
For applications, which can’t afford downtimes at all, customers can choose between a DC UPS System and / or a Redundant Power Supply System. A DC UPS System requires (beside the power supply) a DC UPS module and a battery. Depending on the required hold up time, which often has to be in the minute or even hour range, customers can choose between 3 different sized DC UPS modules and 5 batteries. Relay contacts or an optional serial/ USB interface allow communication with higher level control systems.
A second option to protect 24 VDC loads against downtimes is to build a Redundant Power Supply System, which continuously provides uninterrupted 24 VDC in case of input voltage loss (requires a separate network for the stand by power supply) or in case one of the power supplies fails. A Redundant Power Supply System requires two equal power supplies set up in parallel operation and an inserted Redundancy Module. In case the output voltage of one power supply drops below the selected threshold voltage, the Redundancy Module makes sure that the standby power supply takes over immediately. Clear LED indication on the Redundancy Module, as well as a relay contact for PLC monitoring, signal the status of the redundant system.
The SITOP Diagnosis Module provides reliable, electronic protection for up to 4 circuits per module by isolating and identifying the faulty 24 VDC load circuit on any switched mode power supply while all circuits without fault continue to operate normally.
