Whether you are an end-user, machine builder, designer, contractor, systems integrator, solutions planner or reseller, Siemens lineup of molded case circuit breakers sets the bar high above the competition. Siemens has utilized years of experience in breaker technology and listened closely to customer requirements. Siemens now offers an unmatched family of molded case circuit breakers that are the pinnacle in meeting global standards, providing modular design, and offering savings in both space and cost. No other manufacturer can make these claims and deliver on them like Siemens can.
VL Molded Case Circuit Breakers
The newest addition - Siemens’ family of VL molded case breakers - offers the ultimate in reliability, ease-of-use, and compact size with full protection at every rating level. The compact frame sizes allow for the reduction in equipment size and cost. The space savings, compared to the same frame ratings among our competition, can be as much as 8-10%. And what’s more, flexibility is a “snap”. The trip units easily connect to the base of the frame so, with a minimal stock of frames and trips, a wide range of protection ratings is quickly and easily accessible.
Say, for example, you wanted to add communications to a breaker fitted with a thermal-magnetic trip unit. Snap! You simply remove the existing trip unit and exchange it with a communications-capable electronic trip unit. Now with a communications adapter, you may test the breaker, set up detailed parameters, set up Internet communications, and provide zone selective interlocking and a variety of other important functions. What could be easier and faster?
The VL concept is truly revolutionary for the designer and machine builder because it provides a maximum number of total combinations based on just a few components. Aside from the obvious flexibility this represents, it means smaller inventories to support a variety of amp ratings, interrupting levels, and trip functions. Some of the competitors do offer a degree of modularity, but it is usually limited to electronic versions. For the competitions’ thermal-magnetic versions you would still need to stock a larger quantity of breakers to cover the same amp ratings, interrupting levels, and function types as the Siemens VL offering. Combine the Siemens VL modularity with the fact that every VL breaker meets standards in virtually every country of the world, and the inventory requirements are even further reduced for supplying international applications. These breakers will carry the marks of UL, CSA, CE, NOM, and CCC. In fact, most of the VL components have twice the endurance specified by UL.
It’s simple…less inventory and greater flexibility equals reduced cost and faster turnaround for any just-in-time requirements.
Beyond the VL Line
International standards compatibility goes beyond the VL line. The Siemens global offering of molded case breakers also extends to the NGG/NGB, EG/EB, and miniature 5SJ4’s as well. The Siemens compact 125A Frame NGG/NGB (rated at 25kA @ 480VAC) industrial design thermal magnetic breaker is ideal for OEM-designed equipment in both light commercial and industrial applications. Designed to fit multi-national standards, these compact units are suitable for DIN rail or base mounting without the need for adapters and accept field-installable internal accessories. The NGG has an over-center, trip free toggle mechanism and utilizes repulsion contact arm construction. This means that when a short circuit or tripping condition occurs, the contacts are forced apart at an accelerated rate for maximum protection. The NGB breaker is configured especially for bolt-on panelboard mounting. |
Likewise, the Siemens 125A Frame EG/EB molded case circuit breakers offer many of the same features as the NGG/NGB but are rated 35kA or 65kA @ 480VAC. The EB is configured especially for bolt-on panelboard mounting.
5SJ4 miniature circuit breakers (MCB’s) are 1-, 2-, and 3-pole thermal magnetic overcurrent protection devices that are intended for general industrial use such as branch circuit protection in both IEC and NEMA applications. In addition to their UL 489 standard compliance, these miniature circuit breakers are CE marked according to EN/IEC 60 898 which makes them suitable for international applications. 5SJ4 MCB’s are available from 0.3A to 63A with short circuit current ratings up to 14kA @ 240VAC and 10kA @ 60VDC. |
