PROFIBUS

Terminating Device - To ensure the correct data transmission PROFIBUS requires a network termination on either end of a segment. When the last device, e.g. a diagnostic station will be switched of because it is not constantly used or the last devices will be decoupled and coupled selectively, the PROFIBUS segment will lose its termination; mail function may occur.

The active PROFIBUS terminating device ensures correct network termination for PROFIBUS or MPI networks.

Another possibility for terminating a PROFIBUS segment is the built-in terminating resistor in the FastConnect PROFIBUS connector from Siemens.
