Siemens Introduced The Next Generation SINUMERIK CNC System Platform

CHICAGO — IMTS 2008 will be the stage where Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. will introduce its new SINUMERIK solution line CNC system platform to the United States machine tool market.  The new solution line is comprised the panel-based SINUMERIK 802D sl, the PC-based SINUMERIK 840Di sl and the flagship SINUMERIK 840D sl with panel- and PC-based versions.

The network-centric architecture of SINUMERIK solution line can be effectively combined with SINAMICS, the new and innovative drive technology from Siemens, to design standalone as well as plant-wide automation solutions.  Additionally, PROFINET, the standard industrial Ethernet, and PROFIBUS protocols are used for machine tool communication.  Machines can easily be networked through the corresponding interfaces on the operator panel and the CNC system.

SINUMERIK solution line offers users an open system architecture (HMI / NC Kernel), advanced communication protocols, space-saving modular design and scalable hardware and software options.  This flexible approach alles the design of control and operating concepts to be tailored to the requirements of individual technologies and applications.

For the first time, “thin client technology” is being used and offers new, flexible operator concepts.  These maintenance-free operator panels work without a hard disk, battery or fan.  The drives communications system, called “DRIVE-CLiQ”, provides fast recognition of drives and motors via the electronic type plate and improved diagnostics.

The new SINUMERIK solution line is fully compatible with the existing SINUMERIK CNC family.  This provides users with the peace-of-mind when changing to the new system platform.  It is a secure, future-proof and innovative investment for both machine tool manufacturers and end-users alike.
