ELLDP Frequently Asked Questions

How does Siemens’ Recruiting Process Work?
Siemens’ Recruiting Process is structured with both Fall and Spring recruiting efforts. SE&A conducts on-campus interviews at select schools for each of our Internship and Entry Level Leadership Development Programs: Georgia Tech, Howard University, Michigan State University, Penn State, Purdue University, University of Florida, Virginia Tech, Texas A&M, University of Georgia, Indiana University, Atlanta University Center, Emory University, University of Rhode Island, and Southern Polytechnic State University.  In order to see when and if Siemens Energy and Automation will be visiting your school, please refer to our recruiting schedule.

Traditionally, Siemens will hold an information session the night before it conducts its on campus interviews. The information session gives the students a chance to learn more about Siemens and meet Siemens personnel before the interviews the next day. After campus interviews, Siemens will select and invite students for second round interviews at a Siemens facility. Following the second rounds interviews, Siemens will make offers to students for full-time employment in the Entry-Level Leadership Development Programs.

What is the best way to apply for the ELLDP?
The best way to apply for the ELLDP is through your career services office if Siemens will be visiting your campus. Otherwise, please visit our careers website to submit your resume online at www.siemenscareers.com.

Relocation Information

Will I relocate while on program? Are moving expenses reimbursed?
Relocation varies among the different programs. Members of programs such as the SDP, ELDP, MLDP and OLDP traditionally relocate to a new location across the United States each rotation, while relocation within the FMTP, ITLDP, AMDTDP and MOLDP typically takes place only once during the two year program. SE&A provides a lump sum to program participants to cover relocation costs and has a relocation firm that can assist you in locating new living arrangements. The ability to relocate is critical to these programs and will be expected of all participants.

How is the transition between rotations handled?
Each rotation traditionally lasts 6 months. Rotations usually run from January through June and from July through December. Leadership Week takes place in between rotations for all ELLDP participants and serves as a transition from one rotation to the next.

Rotation Information

Can I choose the rotation where I want to work?
While rotation assignments are ultimately a decision made by the program manager and executive sponsor, input from the participants is highly encouraged. SE&A tries to align participant’s preferences and interests with business needs.

Is there an opportunity for an international assignment during my time on Program?
International rotations are considered for some programs where an international assignment is in alignment with the goals of the program. However, there are other programs such as our SDP, where it would be difficult to have a global assignment that would have a meaningful impact on a U.S. based sales career.

International assignments are reserved for top performers and are typically done in the final rotation. In most cases, the participant’s first off-program job placement will be a domestic extension of the international assignment in order to bring value back to SE&A.

How will I be evaluated?
Program participants are formally evaluated by their rotation managers twice per rotation. Also, a yearly performance evaluation is conducted by the program managers and human resources personnel. Participants are rated on past performance and future potential based upon the SE&A leadership framework (Drive, Focus, Impact, and Guide).

What benefits does Siemens offer employees?
SE&A provides a comprehensive, flexible, and competitive benefits program as an important component of our total rewards package. Benefits for full time salaried employees participating in our Flexible Benefits Program includes medical and dental coverage, disability income plans, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, and a financial planning program. In addition, SE&A also offers the Siemens 401(k) Savings Plan and Siemens Pension Plan.

How does the Siemens 401(k) Savings Plan work?
The Savings Plan gives you an easy and effective way to save for retirement. The Savings plan allows you to contribute a percentage of your pay either before-tax or after-tax (up to certain IRS limits). If you are a salaried employee, Siemens will match a specified percentage of your contribution.

What is PTO and what is it used for?
PTO is an all-inclusive “paid time off” program that provides income protection for “no fault” time away from work. PTO is based on the calendar year and provides you with greater freedom and flexibility in scheduling time away from your job for a variety of reasons, including vacation, sick time, personal business, doctor appointments, family time, personal holidays and personal voluntary community service.

What are the company holidays?
Siemens Energy & Automation celebrates 9 fixed holidays per calendar year. These are the holidays that the Corporate office observes. The holiday schedule varies across the sites.

In addition to the designated holidays above, Corporate employees have one Personal Holiday to take during the calendar year.

How does our Matching College Contribution Program work?
Siemens Energy & Automation established a Matching Gift Program to encourage employees to help provide assistance to our country’s colleges and universities. Siemens will match employee contributions up to a maximum of dollar amount per calendar year for each individual. Donations must have been made during active employment with Siemens. Donors need not have attended the schools to which they give.

What is the Employee Referral Program?
The employee referral program provides employees a reward for referring candidates who are hired and retained within SE&A (employees are not eligible for referring individuals into the Leadership Development Programs). The referral award is paid after your candidate successfully completes 90 days of continuous employment.

General Information

How many hours can I expect to work on a Leadership Program?
The average program member works approximately 40 hours per week. However, additional time commitments may be required based on special cross-functional projects or specific job assignments.

Does Siemens hire International students?
For U.S. recruiting, Siemens Energy & Automation hires students who have permanent authorization to work in the United States. It is illegal to discriminate against non-U.S. citizens who are legally authorized to work in the U.S.

What type of career path can I expect after completing an ELLDP?
SE&A Leadership Development Programs prepare graduates for positions with a significant level of responsibility and challenging off-program assignments. The paths vary based on individual preferences and business requirements, but successful program graduates have accelerated career paths and are ahead of their non-program peers.

Will Siemens support me if I want an MBA, or want to pursue a higher educational degree? Do I need them to succeed at SE&A?
If someone successfully completes one of the leadership programs, other advanced educational degrees or certifications are not necessarily required to succeed at SE&A. The training and experience gained while on the program may accelerate an individual's career growth in much the same way an advanced degree might at another corporation. However, SE&A regularly supports candidates who desire higher education degrees to advance their careers. In these instances, SE&A has a tuition reimbursement program with a set dollar contribution per year.

As an entry-level program, does the ELLDP take only undergrads?
The Leadership Development Programs are geared for candidates with no full-time work experience. The vast majority of program members have only an undergraduate degree however some programs do recruit master’s candidates as well.

Company Program Information

I want to get involved in the SE&A community. What are some of the opportunities (in regard to clubs and organizations) that are currently available?
SE&A offers many employee communities that you are welcome to join. These communities include Latin American Community, Women’s Network, African-American Community, South Asian Employee Community, and Native American Employee Community. You do not have to be a member of the different diversity groups to join. Local area offices also may have groups such as Toastmasters, an organization designed to build presentation skills. Each facility also has a Caring Hands Committee. Siemens Caring Hands is a company-wide effort to support our employees who are inspired to make a difference in their communities by volunteering their time, money and skills to help change the world where we live and work.
